![]() ![]() Until then, the picture above is proof that all are excellent choices. Hopefully some day this page will be updated with solid, scientific data and the picture evidence to match. The SNES Mini needs to be tested in the same places as the 1CHIP and the oscilloscope readings need to be compared. One other thing to note: Its possible the LFP in the THS7314 is actually clearing up other issues, so maybe the softness tradeoff is worth it MORE TESTING IS REQUIRED TO DETERMINE. If you just wire an RGB mod ( any of the mods) to a Mini without adding the brightness attenuating resistors, youll have the potential for washed out colors, ringing and possibly other unwanted artifacts. The first thing to remember is both Mini and 1CHIP models output video thats too bright. Id be willing to bet that theyd both consoles would look slightly difference before and identical after.Įverything I said above still applies, but this is proof that while there are differences, all output an excellent signal that any SNES fan should be very happy with. Some day, Id like to try the (kind of crazy) task of replacing every single component on two SNES motherboards with the highest quality components possible and take before and after captures and oscilloscope readings. Most major manufacturers would typically use 5 tolerant components which would explain the quality range across 1CHIP consoles. That means a 100-ohm resistor thats 1 tolerance can be 99, 100, or 101 ohms. That means there might actually be some kind of interference radiating across the 1CHIP motherboard and by bypassing, it moves the RGB lines away from the source of interference. ![]() I can only speculate that the issues I saw were a result of age and use Maybe some had bad capacitors Maybe others had caps so bad they leaked and caused other issues on the board Bad voltage regulator. Ive seen 1CHIP-02s that looked awful, 1CHIP-03s that looked phenomenal and every combination you can imagine. While they dont show the differences as clearly as the screenshots above, they demonstrate what the differences look like on an RGB monitor (its much more noticeable in person). What youre seeing isnt the image shifting to the right, its the filter horizontal blur. Please note that I tried to line up the two pictures as perfectly as I can, down to the pixel. Its an easy comparison, as all the 2-chip models have video output thats very blurry and while some are better then others, none come close to any of the consoles with the S-CPUN chip (1CHIPMinis). ![]() ![]() Three total revisions were manufactured, the SNS-CPU-1CHIP-01, SNS-CPU-1CHIP-02 and SNS-CPU-1CHIP-03. ![]()
